A man convicted of killing a Chicago couple in 1991 in Seaside will remain in prison.  The state Board of Parole and Post-Prison Supervision ruled Tuesday that Andrew Metz is not likely to be rehabilitated.


Two Northwest commercial community banks are merging.  West Coast Bancorp of Lake Oswego and Columbia Banking System of Tacoma, Wash., announced the merger Wednesday.

 This summer, millions of people around the world and our country sat down to watch the Olympic Games, as the best athletes alive strove for victory. The three United States Coast Guard cutter crews homeported here in Astoria held their own Olympic games at Tongue Point last Thursday to boost morale, strengthen relationships, and determine who was the best in a series of events related to work and life aboard a ship at sea.


 The service began in response to a ship accident  40 years ago. The collision occurred in a dense fog bank several hundred yards west of the Golden Gate Bridge. The fully laden Arizona Standard was inbound en route to Richmond, Calif., and the Oregon Standard, carrying a full load of bunker fuel, was outbound steaming toward British Columbia.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     

 

On September 26, 2012 Astoria Police were notified that Alaina Davis had turned herself in to Eureka CA PD. She was deteained by Eureka PD and her mother is on the way to pick her up.

  A body of a man was located at the Port of Ilwaco in Washington on Monday.  Chief Wright with the Long Beach Police Department reported that the death appears to have been accidental because there was no indication of foul play.

  The early investigation indicated that the man was pulling a cart of fishing supplies on the port docks when he fell into the water.  It is not yet known what caused the man to fall into the water.  The incident happened between 11:00am and 11:15am.

The Coast Guard medevaced a man from a commercial fishing vessel approximately 75 miles west of the Columbia River entrance, Saturday.
